Andrea Liu, Music & Life
About
Andrea Jingsuiyue Liu (she/her), born in Guangzhou, China, is an undergraduate student at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Computer Music and minoring in Anthropology. Andrea’s academic journey, shaped by four years in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and her ongoing college experience, has driven her to explore the intersections of music and art and their roles in contemporary society.
At Peabody, Andrea is honing pre-production techniques and deepening her understanding of music theory to create polished, professional compositions. Her primary genres include electronic pop, experimental electronica, R&B, and indie pop. She frequently incorporates unique sound samples, from synthesized tones to everyday sounds like crunching ice, footsteps, and spoken word monologues. Integrating familiar, real-world sounds can evoke a deeper emotional connection with listeners. Music has been a personal source of healing during challenging times, and she’s passionate about using this art form to help others. In addition to my music studies, her background in anthropology and social sciences has equipped her with solid research and ethnographic skills, including fieldwork experience that involves immersive engagement with communities over extended periods. This interdisciplinary training has deepened Andrea’s understanding of societal needs across different demographics, reinforcing the belief in the power of music and art to bring hope and joy to communities.
Andrea Liu’s goal is to create music that resonates personally and uplifts and heals. Whether through research or creative work, remain committed to making a positive impact. Andrea’s guiding principle is staying true to her social responsibility and desire to help others.
